It's That Time of Year

It is coming, that time of year, when outside is where everyone wants to be. Summertime! Filled with barbecues, camping, swimming, bonfires, and so much more fun things to do outdoors. One thing to keep in mind when you are having the time of your life during summer break is fire safety. Did you know that in 2014, a local fire department documented 16,600 patients going to the emergency room because of burn injuries involving outdoor grills. That is a lot of people getting hurt while cooking up a nice meal. July is the peak month for grill fires, followed by May, June, and August. Gas leaks or a break in the gas line factored in 11% of grill fires one fire department stated. That may not seem like a lot but imagine 1000 people grilling out in July and at least 110 of those people had their grill catch on fire or caught something close by on fire, like their home. That is mind blowing. Gas grills contribute to a higher number of home fires overall than charcoal grills. So, make sure to thoroughly check your gas lines and propane tanks before using it every single time. A good rule of thumb would be to always clean your grill of any debris or food particles after each use. Anything left behind can catch fire and cause a big issue later. Following these safety tips could prevent you from being a part of the percentages listed above.
