Now most of us have been taught about fire safety, fire prevention, and what to do in case of a fire. But have you learned about water damages and the effects it can have on your Washington County home? Although having a water damage isn’t common to cause bodily injury, it is important to have knowledge of how it can affect your home. So, what is considered water damage? In general, this problem can be defined as water that destroys the interior of your home. It can be caused by many different sources throughout your home such as a broken water pipe inside your walls. It can be caused by an appliance like a refrigerator line, a washing machine, or even a dishwasher. Many plumbing sources like your kitchen faucet, bathroom sink or shower faucets, and toilet plumbing lines can leak causing a water damage to occur. When this happens, you can sometimes see water flowing out on the floor, or notice drywall, flooring, and cabinets wet or wet to the touch. Other ways you can spot a water damage is by looking for water stains. An obvious, telltale sign of water damage. Unexplained humidity or dampness in your home can be a sign of an undetected water leak. Also, if you are hearing strange noises like random dripping or trickling, it is best to check all sources of water in your home. If you are unable to find anything but still feel like there is something leaking there are a few things you can do. Contact your water company to check your meter. They will check to see if the meter is running when all sources are turned off. If it is then more than likely you have a leak somewhere. You can also contact a local plumber to check your appliance or plumbing lines as well.
